Speakers are on and in, drivers are all up to date, sound is on in the settings. Any ideas? Showing 1 - 13 of 13 comments.
Restart the game. If it did not correct the issue see if you received an update for your realtek driver. You may need to reconfigure your front and rear outpot. The included OpenAL sound driver is prone to getting locked up by other sound systems. It may be worth a reboot before trying any radical fixes. Proxon View Profile View Posts.
Have the same issue with iMac and boot camp, with windows 7 and 10 Must start times before I get sound. Thinking that the problem is that pc has been in sleep mode. Boot the computer so works TS with sound - Other programs and games work with audio.
I got sound to work reliably by renaming OpenAL Evidently my system had another OpenAL version installed and they were conflicting. Might work for you. Rename Openal Dll not start TS. Suspect now that it is SteelSeries Engiene 3 keyboard drivers that make is no sound, after some use. Tested now by the computer had not been restarted in a few days. Started TS 4 times with audio. Noticed that I had not keyboard profile for TS.
Boot the computer everything works again. Did you try clearing your game cache? Please remember even those this file is free, the author still has rights to the file.

This will give you a folder with 3 more zipped files in it.
If you unzip these files you will get 3 more folders, each named for the loco whose sounds will be changed, for instance you will get a folder called sdwidecabhornsound which will have 5 files in it. These will need to be dropped into the SD widecab folder and will probably overwrite some existing files. I'm at work at the moment, but if you can hang on until tonight UK time I'll give you more help if you need it.
Just be careful if you're not sure as like I said these files might overwrite your existing ones! The audio blueprint for Dovetail Games Train Simulator is one of the more complicated aspects of creating content for the game. Here I'll go through the basics of the audio blueprints for a rail vehicle, but the principle is the same for scenery audio objects too. For almost all the audio in the game, there are two blueprint files. The audio blueprint and the audio proxy blueprint.
Very important: Don't ever try to export either audio blueprint on their own. The blueprint editor has some interesting bugs in it that can destroy all the values and if the blueprint is re-saved after an export, the XML file becomes corrupted. The audio blueprint is really only a placeholder that points to the proxy blueprint, but it's the one that your engine, wagon or scenery object needs to reference.
It looks like this:. The proxy blueprint is where all the work is done. Any sound that gets played in the game consists of the elements shown in this diagram. Each sound the 'sample' is played either as a one-shot sound it gets played once, triggered by some eventor as a loop it continues to play based on some condition.
The sound can be modified by a modifier chain which in turn takes uses curves to determine exactly how to modify the sound. The curves are simple numerical data points that are used to lookup an input value, and change an output value accordingly.
For example the input to a curve could be the speed of the train, and the output from the curve could be the pitch of the sound. The simplest example of how all the components work together is to consider an engine sound that changes pitch with the speed of the train. For this, 5 elements are needed:.
The engine sound should be a mono WAV file that loops - ie. The blueprint editor entry for the sound should look something like this:.
Note that the Is Looped checkbox is ticked. This is because when this sound plays, it needs to play continuously.
The rest of the parameters are documented in the online audio blueprint wikiand it does a better job of describing them than I can.
Important: Give the sound a meaningful name!
For this example, two curves are needed. One that alters the pitch of sound based on speed, and one that alters the volume of the sound based on speed. The volume curve is needed because without it, the looping sound would be playing even with the engine standing still. Curves are defined as pairs of points, denoted by X and Y values. The curve itself has no units - that comes later.
For the pitch curveimagine an engine sound that plays at the original pitch of the WAV file at low speed, but at 1. The pitch curve isn't really a curve, but a straight line defined by two points that looks like this:. X-values are speed, Y-values are pitch. Important: Give the curve a meaningful name! In the blueprint editor, this particular curve definition looks like this:. In this case a curve with at least 4 points is required.
Again it's not really a curve but a series of straight lines that join points together. All who have pre-ordered will have received what looks like an update notification today. Have you tried to verify your steam cache? Furiey View Profile View Posts. I sometimes have no sound when I start train simulator, but it usually comes back when I restart the game. It happened more often with than with but I don'r remember it happening with If you do re-install you will not lose the DLC as that is tied to your accoumt, but do back up any addons not from Steam if you have them.
Try to verify your cache before you reinstall though - it may save a large download otherwise. If it's a driver update that has done it though you may want to investigate your drivers rather than TS as there may be an issue between them and reinstalling TS will do nothing if it's a driver issue.
Thanks for the help guys The sound returned after steam updated itself and I have no idea why or what happened I guess it just might be one of those pesky bugs. Today Ive started it several times and it still has not returned. I have not had this issue with any other software. I have this problem as well thought it was third party problem but now on TS locs as well. Cleared the cache but still no sound.
This should work reliably shouldnt it? Phase3 View Profile View Posts. One solution that sometimes works. First update any sound drivers. If not just rename the Railworks file back. This will be lost on a cache verfication. Thank you for the reply and advice. Sound is back now but for how long I dont know. This does indicate to me that it is an erratic problem. Once again thank you Last edited by Roger T ; 23 Feb, am. Per page: 15 30 Date Posted: 20 Nov, pm.
